Movie Cliff Notes

July 12th, 2014 by BlackRose Parties

Remember in high school when you didn’t quiet have enough time to get through War and Peace, before the test? You scanned through the Cliff’s Notes while sitting on a hard plastic bench at the cafeteria table.

Now that you are a parent, you need Cliff’s Notes to keep current on all of the toys, movies, books, songs, and tween idols that so consume your children. This blog will be your short, concise guide to the world of kid-friendly entertainment.

Let’s start with new movie releases for fall and winter 2014.

Planes: Fire & Rescue (PG) – Opening July 18, 2014, critics are saying that it is a typical Disney movie with traditional plots and lessons in courage. Also, keeping with tradition, Disney has launched merchandise ranging from stationary to video games.

The Boxtrolls (PG) – This movie will open in September 2014. Focus Features created a film about a boy that was raised under the city streets by a community of boxtrolls. When their community is threatened, the boy climbs out of the sewers to save his adopted family.

Let’s answer the obvious question. A boxtroll is a creature that has greyish, green arms and legs, a face with a lot of character, and a cardboard box torso. They live beneath the city streets, only to emerge at night and go dumpster diving. They are misunderstood by the city dwellers, who believe that the boxtrolls are trying to capture their children.

Your child can build a boxtroll at www.theboxtrolls.com. You can select the shape of the box, customize the label, add clothing, and choose a face.

Dolphin Tale 2 (PG) – Also opening in September 2014. Winter, the dolphin with a prosthetic tale, is facing another challenge. Her adopted mother passes away. Winter is alone again. The same crew that helped Winter swim with her prosthetic tale, now has to come together to get her a new poolmate. The team rescues a baby dolphin and decide that this dolphin may be the one to save Hope.

Big Hero 6 (Not Yet Rated) – This movie will be released in November 2014. The creators of Frozen and Wreck it Ralf, bring you a story about a boy that builds a robot. The larger than life and cute as a button robot is named Baymax. Baymax has a growing fan base thanks to YouTube clips of him trying to kick and pickup soccer balls.

While Baymax is a Marvel comic book character and the movie is action packed, it is expected to have a Disney feel and message.

Big Hero 6 is filled with diversification. The main characters have names like Hiro, Fred, and Wasabi. The plot unfolds in the town of San Fransokyo. A mix of classic American and classic Japanese names and cities.

A full plot has not been released yet. Keep checking the blog for more details.

Paddington (Not Yet Rated) – Set to be out just in time for Christmas, this movie will star a loveable bear named Paddington. Paddington’s house is destroyed in an earthquake, so he is sent off to London to live with a family friend. Instead he finds temporary refuge with a British family and they teach him about living in a big city. Then he catches the eye of the local taxidermist who wants to turn him into a stuffed bear.

The movie is produced by David Heyman who was responsible for the Harry Potter films and the Gravity movie. The cast includes greats such as Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), Nicole Kidman, and Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine).
